Benefits of Being a CFA Member:

  1. Use of the legal designation of the certification mark CAHP (Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional) is only applicable to professional CFA members. The CAHP designation is protected under the Canadian trademark laws.
  2. CFA membership certificate for your office.
  3. Ability to stay connected and network with aromatherapists regarding areas of practice, issues within the field of aromatherapy and gaining ideas and advice from fellow practitioners.
  4. Access to discounted Professional and General Liability Insurance through group rates and coverage for numerous holistic modalities.
  5. An opportunity to represent the CFA and it’s members by lobbying various levels of government concerning the right to practice holistic therapies.
  6. Belong to a professional and respected organization. The CFA has established minimum education standards, advertising guidelines, grievance resolution policy, code of ethics, among other policies and procedures.

Requirements for Professional CFA memberships

Successfully writing the CFA National Exam, holding professional liability insurance and having current CPR/first aid qualifications are all mandatory requirements for professional members of the CFA. Continuing education units (CEUs) are required to maintain professional Membership Status.

Membership Categories

Professional Member (Voting)

Professional members consist of all individual members of the Corporation who have achieved certification by the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists. They are practicing Aromatherapists who carry professional liability insurance, First Aid/CPR and must follow the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. They are entitled to use the designation CAHP (Certified Aromatherapy Health Practitioner) and are able to vote at meetings of the Corporation as voting members.

International Member (Voting)

International members must be CFA course graduates, having successfully completed the CFA National Exam. They are not required to carry insurance through the CFA. They are not required to have First Aid/CPR certification.

Aromatologist/Aromachologist (Voting)

Aromatologist/Aromachologist members shall consist of all members who are educated in aromatherapy and do not practice hands on body work, who have met the educational requirements, hold professional liability insurance, First Aid/CPR and must follow the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. They are entitled to use the designation CAHP (Certified Aromatherapy Health Practitioner) and are able to vote at meetings of the Corporation as voting members.

Non-Practicing Professional Member (Voting)

Non-practicing Professional members in the Corporation shall consist of all members of the Corporation who are Aromatherapists who have met the educational requirements, but are not carrying liability insurance due to personal reasons (i.e. medical, emotional, financial) and who follow the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. They are entitled to use the designation CAHP (Certified Aromatherapy Health Practitioner) and are able to vote at meetings of the Corporation as voting members. They do not receive a seal for their certificate until active status is resumed.

Professional Instructor Membership (Voting)

Professional Instructor members in the Corporation shall consist of all members of the Corporation who have obtained the instructor requirements of the CFA, are currently teaching an aromatherapy program which meets the CFA core curriculum, has been a CFA member for the previous two years before applying for this membership category. They must hold personal/property liability insurance for themselves and their students. They must maintain their CPR certification and must follow the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. They are entitled to use the designation CAHP (Certified Aromatherapy Health Practitioner) and are able to vote at meetings of the Corporation as voting members.

Student Member (Non-Voting)

Student member members of the Corporation shall consist of all students taking an aromatherapy course from a CFA approved instructor. Student members shall not be entitled to vote at meetings of the Corporation and shall be designated as Non-Voting members.

Affiliate member (Non-Voting)

Affiliate members of the Corporation shall be open to the general public, or any individual with a genuine interest in aromatherapy. Affiliate members shall not be entitled to vote at meetings of the Corporation and shall be designated as Non-Voting members.
